Why DiscipleKC?
In response to Jesus’ last command, “Make disciples of all ethne/people groups, Disciple KC is an alliance of Great Commission minded organizations that share a desire to catalyze disciple making movements in accordance with the geographical progression of Acts 1:8, across the street, across the city and across the ocean so that we see the accomplishment of the Great Commission in our lifetime.
Acts 19:8-10 inspires us to be a city like Ephesus. After two years of discussions among the disciples in the Hall of Tyrannous the entire province of Asia Minor (Turkey, 15 million population in First Century) heard the word of the Lord.
God has birthed an unusual spirit of collaboration among Great Commission minded leaders who believe movements of the gospel are, God ordained (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 19:8-10), Spirit dependent (Matthew 9:36-38), Bible centered (II Timothy 3:16-18), Obedience focused (John 14:5), Discovery based (John 6:44-46), Disciple driven (II Corinthians 5:16-21), Multiplication obsessed (II Timothy 2:2)
DiscipleKC recognizes that Holy Spirit driven CPM/DMMs as a key to seeing the Great Commission accomplished in our city. After 15 years of intense church planting in KC with millions of dollars and kingdom time invested, we are no closer to reaching our city than when we started. We do believe that investment counted for changed lives and many are heaven bound as a result. BUT when we look at the City perspective, we aren’t growing the heaven bound population anywhere near the rate that our population is growing. The net results is that we are losing ground.
A fresh look at Jesus’ practices helps us learn to eradicate cultural christianity with its hierarchical leadership structures and building centric ministry that keeps the gospel heavy and unable to move freely through a population. Disciple KC helps churches and ministries understand how to practice fresh Biblical ways of multiplicative disciple making (disciples who make disciples) while honoring the legacy of a local church.
From a global perspective, there are 6700+ groups yet to hear the good news of Jesus, representing 2.1 Billion people. We sit in a generation that has more hellhound people than any other generation since Jesus gave the Great Commission. The unevangelized 30% of the world will only be reached by indigenous disciples making disciples that make disciples, churches birthing churches that birth churches, leaders developing and empowering leaders that develop more leaders, and movements that catalyze more movements.
Matthew 28:16-20 commands us to make disciple making disciples. Multiplication is our standard of measure, Can our disciples make disciples who make disciples so that every man, women and child in the KC Metro area has a chance to repeatedly hear and respond to Jesus’ call to follow Him and learn to live as a re-productive member of His family.
Multiplication demands an addiction to simple repeatable methodologies that can be repeated by anyone willing to follow Jesus in obedience despite their education, training, giftings, passions or temperament.
Jesus was fundamentally clear, “If you love me do what I say.” (John 14:15) Obedience was Jesus’ call to his disciples. For Jesus to know and not to do was not to know. (James 1:22-25)
Simple repeatable methodologies that call people to obey God’s desires for their lives are the core of movement methodology. When disciples obey and replicate disciples who make disciples, Biblically functioning communities (local churches) begin to arise in their midst and the prayer that Jesus taught us starts being answered, may it be on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6)
Strategically envisioning all the sectors of Kansas City; geographic, ethnological, demographic, vocational, age, income, affinity, Disciple KC seeks to position a self replicating gospel (disciples who make disciples) in every segment of the city while training and coaching the movements (an eco-system) until we see Jesus’ last command obeyed and fulfilled.
No one church or organization will accomplish this goal. It will be a coalition of Great Commission driven partnerships. Disciple KC endeavors to launch training movements, a Great Commission eco-system of
obedience based, discovery focused , disciples who make disciples
offering hands on, fingers in the dirt practice
creative learning that accelerates the mindset shifts of modern Christian needed to make the transition from ministry to movement
connects to a coaching system that will provide sustainable practice of the principles
and launches those called to the global efforts of the Great Commission in conjunction with the Ethne Movement.
DiscipleKC sits in a larger context of the Ethne’ Movement’s Ephesus Vision as a Home Hub. Ethne is a global partnership to accelerate the movement of the 6700+ ethnes that have yet to hear the good news of Jesus.
